If you’re writing a romance, and you’ve never been in one yourself, then where will you start?
Every romance begins when Guy meets Gal. And there are countless ways it can happen, from being introduced by family friends to meeting at college.
When they meet, it should be memorable. People love comparing where a couple started to where they are now.
1. Pick something about the setting or the situation the characters are in that gives the meeting an interesting touch.
Example: Perhaps he’s on the run from bad guys and she’s the innocent bystander taking a stroll through the park when she comes across him and helps him with his wound. And then the bad guys show up and he takes her hand and they hightail it out of there.
2. The characters should leave an impression on each other by the time their meeting has ended. That impression could be good or it could be bad, and they could even have the same impression on each other. Whatever the case, they’re going to meet again, whether they like it or not.
Example: They’re both amazed the other was concerned with the well-being/safety of a total stranger.
