Know The Novel: It Is Written…& Edited?

(Part 1) (Part 2)

Here comes Part 3 of the Know The Novel linkup by Christine Smith, the QUEEN of Nano herself!

(Seriously, she is a literal writing QUEEN)

Yes, after two years, I have finished my ever elusive WIP known as The Woodsman! I, uh, failed to catch the final word count before starting the edits though, hehe.

BUT I did revise my goal to reach 120 pages and I did!

Now, let’s go through these questions!

1. Firstly, how did writing this novel go all around?

I don’t really remember??? Except that Jonathan is a grumpy hermit and so sometimes, he’d go off and hide…

2. Did it turn out like you expected or completely different? And how do you feel about the outcome?

Ohhh, I’m sure it turned out different than I planned. And now that I’m in the throes of editing, it’s turning out an entirely new-ish plot.

3. What aspect of the story did you love writing about the most? (Characters, plot, setting, prose, etc.)

Characters. Because CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT! And Jonathan’s arc may have turned into a bit of a redemption arc, and I’m a sucker for those!

4. How about your least favorite part?

Um…maybe when it sort of seemed like a chore trying to get the words on the page.

5. What do you feel like needs the most work?

Maybe the pacing? Keeping characters in-character? I did already have two of my sisters read some of it, and one pointed out that Jonathan is talking too much too early in the story.

6. How do you feel about your characters now? Who’s your favorite? Least favorite? Anyone surprise you? Give us all the details!

The main trio are all my favorites! And of course, I hope to make the side characters as memorable too! But there’s at least one character I don’t like.

7. What’s your next plan of action with this novel?

I’m kind of already into the next plan, aka editing.

8. If you could have your greatest dream realized for this novel, what would it be?

9. Share some of your favorite snippets!

Three marigolds, all fresh, stood upright in it. The forest melted, she could hear a thumping in her ears, and Nicole’s muffled voice wasn’t enough to break her from her thoughts. From her memories.

“But that’s only if you find out, right?” Nicole smirked.

Susanna scowled.

“You look like your brother when you do that.”

“Stop it.”

“I guess I’ll see you later.” Jonathan said, backing up. “Not later as in later tonight, that’s not happening. Not unless I change my mind and I probably will because I enjoy yo-” He cut himself off.

“Who are you and what have you done with my sister?”

“I do not have terrible aim, (Redacted),” Jonathan grumbled, having been close enough to hear. “And I’m not grumpy anymore.”

Susanna wrinkled her nose at his use of her real name. “Whatever you say, Mr. Grumpy Hermit.”

10. Did you glean any new writing and/or life lessons from writing this novel?

Well, that’s all for now! I’ll probably start posting editing updates…sometime.

  1. I’m so happy for you that you completed your goal and are now in the editing phase! ^_^

Those snippets, though! I LOVED them!!! Mr. Grumpy Hermit sounds adorably awkward and I love that he has a redemption arc. 😀 (I know his name is Jonathan, but calling him Mr. Grumpy Hermit is more fun. XD)

    1. Haha, yup! I was able to do it this morning before work! Honestly, I want to SPILL ALL THE BEANS about how Jonathan’s arc is actually one of redemption, but not here…

Aw, thanks! I’m not sure I’m doing it right, but I’m trying!
