I am not good at focusing on one WIP. Well…then again, I guess I kind of have been focused on just one WIP lately, aka The Woodsman. But even then, I don’t work on it as much as I’d like.
Maybe that’s a good thing, maybe it’s a bad thing, maybe it’s a little but of both. Probably a little bit of both. But I really should just make myself focus on tidying it up so that I can…well…you know…*mumbles* send it to an editor…
How to focus… how to focus…it’s simple really. It’s a bit like when you were little and you complained about not being able to sleep, and your parents told you to close your eyes and keep them shut. (Or was it just my parents that said that?)
In my case, to focus on TW means I should be disabling my internet. But then again, what if I need to research something? Sure, I could always ask my parents stuff about the 90s. But there are some things that they won’t remember or know – like the weather on a particular day at a particular time in a particular area. In that case, I’ve found a website that shows the amount of cloud cover at a certain time on a certain day in a certain area.
Another way to focus – write. Just write. Even if it’s a pitiful dump of adverbs and adjectives and stilted sentences.
Yet another way to focus – daydream, maybe? Put on some music and try to visualize the scenes. I’ve done that with Gunnar & Mette, especially with the whole King Arthur part. (Yep, it has Arthurian influence)
Alright…now onto the ramblings. Which are really more along the lines of future writing plans – check that, they are future writing plans.
So, when TW is off to the editing races, I plan to focus a little more on Arrows. I was originally doing this whole schedule thing where I work on Arrows 3x a week and TW 2x a week, but…that kind of flew out the window.
As for other WIPs:
Preserving The Past is being revamped, and I guess I’m still trying to decide whether to keep the same characters or come up with entirely new characters…it’s because I made Ethan Nicole’s cousin through marriage, isn’t it?
(Which reminds me, I still need to finish that crossover!)
Finnegan’s Valley will be research and outlining.
I am now wondering why I would mix Robin Hood with Cinderella (Ella & Captain Todd) when I could just mix Cinderella with Rob Roy?? AKA the Scottish Robin Hood??? I also might be considering buying myself a copy of Rob Roy so I can read it and I want to read it because of a review I saw of it.
(Don’t get me wrong, Robin Hood is one of my favorite folk tales, but ROB ROY)
I’ve also been feeling a bit Scottish/Irish lately (is that even possible), probably because I’m reading a book about the Potato Famine and because of that Rob Roy review and ALSO because I’ve been listening to Scottish/Irish music at times.
(Or maybe it’s just because I have Scottish and Irish ancestry…and it’s also March…)
Um…what else was I going to work on? Oh yeah, those vignettes or serials or whatever you wanna call them. I’ve actually been brainstorming for Gunnar & Mette lately, I just need to do some actual outlining.
I also need to figure out if I’m really going to add two prequels and a sequel to The Woodsman…it’d definitely help me figure out what to do with some of those ideas and WIPs that have been sitting on the shelf, some of them for years…
Reading Update (Because Why Not?)
Paddy’s Lament by Thomas Gallagher – The book about the famine I was talking about. They used animal blood to fortify other foods they still had. Animal blood. They mixed it with oats and with milk and I felt a little sick reading that entire section.
The Purity Principle by Randy Alcorn – Basically about keeping yourself pure for marriage and all that. I just started it last night.
Bullies by Ben Shapiro – Need to catch up on it.
Blackout by Candace Owens – Also need to catch up on.
A bunch of other books I need to either start or catch up on, some of which are packed and I won’t be able to get them out until we’ve moved in the fall…ugh. Oh well, I do have a little over 50 books out at the moment…some of which I bought this year…I’m going to need another bookshelf because I only see myself getting rid of like three or four books when I unpack all of them.
(I have like 5-6 boxes full of books…)
Oh, and I should catch up on where I left off in Ezekiel…
Alright, that’s about-wait. I’m almost done with the blanket I started knitting back in October. So yay!
What are you up to? How’s the writing going? Read any good books lately? Pick up any new hobbies?
